Arbor Day 2020: Long-Distance Celebration
- Friday, April 24, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
While our annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway had to be canceled, we’re still excited to celebrate trees with you! We’ve got a day full of activities to connect with nature-lovers across southern Indiana and beyond. Spread the word by inviting your friends and encouraging them to plant trees!
For the latest updates, visit the Facebook event page.
TREE SPECIES FOR YOUR YARD
Normally on Arbor Day, we hand out hundreds of free native tree seedlings. But another component of the day is helping people learn more about the trees they’re planting. Check out our Arbor Day page with suggested tree species, planting tips, and more.
SYCAMORE SWAG DAY
Show your love for Sycamore by wearing your shirt or hat, or using your Sycamore mug or tote bag! Take a pic, post it on your social media, and share it in a post on our page (look here for the link that morning). We’ll gather all the photos and create a Facebook album to remember the communal Sycamore love from all corners of Indiana.
SURPRISE MEMBERSHIP PROMO: all weekend
We’ll be offering a special opportunity for new and renewing memberships at 9:00 am, so if you want to help Sycamore continue to protect trees and restore habitat in southern Indiana, be sure to check it out and tell your friends. Visit the Facebook event page for the announcement.
TREE ID CONTEST: 12:00 noon eastern
Right at noon, we’ll post a link to our Tree ID Contest on our Facebook page and on the Facebook event page. Complete the form by 1:00 pm for a chance to win a prize (please follow the honor system and don’t cheat). All participants who complete the form will be entered to win a native plant tote bag, and one person who gets all the answers correct will win our For Forever t-shirt. Winners will be randomly selected from eligible participants; must live in the continental US to receive a prize (via mail).
LIVE PLANT HIKE WITH JOHN LAWRENCE: 1:30 pm
Join our Executive Director for a live video hike through one of his favorite Monroe County forests on Facebook Live. He’ll be identifying cool trees and wildflowers, plus other plants, bird calls, and geographical features. The livestream link will be on the Facebook event page.
