Winged Wonders: Bat Box Building Workshop

Join Meredith Hoggatt, Bailey Swan, and Sycamore Land Trust in an exploration of the nocturnal world and discover the vital role of bats as pollinators! This is a hands-on event where you’ll learn about the remarkable relationship between bats and plants, and how these winged creatures contribute to the health of our ecosystems. Learn how to construct bat boxes, which provide safe havens for these valuable pollinators in your own backyard. You’ll discover the importance of bat conservation and how simple actions can make a significant difference in preserving their habitats.

During the first half of the event, Meredith Hoggatt will dive deep into the biology of bats. Then Bailey will lead you step by step on bat box construction. Only one bat box per registration group/vehicle. Materials and light refreshments will be provided!

Meredith Hoggatt is a federally permitted bat biologist working for WEST, Inc. out of their Bloomington, Indiana, office. She completed her Master’s using acoustics to estimate Indiana bat population size from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When she’s not out catching or recording bats, you can find her bird watching, buried in a book, or attempting to win at pub trivia.
