Preserve-a-Preserve: Weed Wrangle at Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve

Spend a day tromping through wetlands during our Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve Weed Wrangle as we work together to remove invasive cattails. Over the past couple of years, storms and tornado damage have opened the canopy in parts of the preserve, allowing more sunlight to reach the wetlands, which causes aggressive species like cattails to spread. Participants will work off-trail in shallow water, using cut-stump techniques to target cattails to help restore native wetland vegetation. By reducing cattail dominance, we can improve habitat for birds, amphibians, and aquatic invertebrates while supporting the wetland’s natural recovery after these landscape altering events.
