Hike the Trust: Canyon Forest Nature Preserve

Join us for a guided hike as part of our Hike the Trust series at Canyon Forest Nature Preserve, a rugged and scenic 68-acre preserve. Its deep ravines and sandstone outcrops are part of Greene County’s ancient bedrock, where resistant sandstones and underlying shale have been sculpted over millions of years to form dramatic canyons and slopes that support diverse plant communities, from orchids and ferns to woodland trees. Along the way, we’ll tie together how the geology influences soil, water flow, and plant distribution, helping you see the connection between rocks, soils, forests, and ecological diversity in one of Indiana’s most interesting natural areas.
