Our Spring Plant Sale raised over $17,500 for habitat restoration

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Sycamore Land Trust’s fifth annual Spring Plant Sale! Thanks to your incredible support, this year’s sale raised more than $17,500 to help restore and care for wildlife habitat across southern Indiana.

Every spring, our community comes together at Bloomingfoods East to shop from dozens of species of native plants grown from seed in Sycamore’s Native Plant Nursery. Many of these plants begin as seed collected from local natural areas, making them well adapted to the soils, climate, and wildlife of southern Indiana. By planting native species at home, gardeners create food and shelter for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife while helping restore the ecological connections that support healthy landscapes.

Our Native Plant Nursery is an important part of Sycamore’s habitat restoration program. Each year, volunteers join staff to grow thousands of hardy native plants from locally collected seed for restoration projects on our nature preserves. These plants are used to restore wetlands, wildflower meadows, streambanks, and other natural habitats on our preserves throughout southern Indiana.

Our Spring Plant Sale helps keep the nursery thriving. Proceeds support nursery operations, including hiring Indiana University interns who help collect seed, propagate native plants, and care for them throughout the growing season. Their work allows us to expand our restoration efforts while providing valuable hands-on experience in conservation.

Return Your Pots! If you purchased plants at this year’s sale, we would love to reuse your nursery pots. A pot return station is available in the parking lot at Bloomingfoods East behind the Garden Center. Just look for the orange trafficcones. Returning your pots helps reduce waste and allows us to reuse them for next year’s Spring Plant Sale.

We have a small number of native plants remaining from this year’s sale and plan to offer them to Sycamore members at a discounted price. Members, watch your inbox for an email with details.
