Purple Fringeless Orchid Stroll

Did you know that Indiana is home to more than 40 species of orchids? At Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve, we’ll search for the striking purple fringeless orchid in bloom. This tall, showy native orchid thrives in the preserve’s sunny, poorly-drained floodplain wetlands and seasonal swales, where spring flooding and open conditions create ideal habitat. While the species is considered globally secure, it is rare or imperiled in many states and appears on Indiana’s state watch list, making local populations especially important to protect!
