COVID-19 Updates

Nature is a refuge in difficult times, and we are pleased to be able to keep Sycamore's nature preserves open at this time.

You can help us care for these beautiful natural areas and hiking trails. Please consider becoming a member!

Our office is closed to visitors. Our public trails remain open but have seen a major increase in visitation during the pandemic. Amy Weingartner Branigin Peninsula Preserve is closed on weekends and holidays.

We urge all visitors to follow guidelines for social distancing when visiting Sycamore’s nature preserves and review our current safety instructions.

Responsible Recreation

Due to an extraordinary increase in traffic related to the effects of COVID-19, the Amy Weingartner Branigin Peninsula Preserve will be temporarily closed on weekends and holidays beginning Fridays at 8pm. It will reopen at 8am on Monday mornings. This includes Memorial Day and the official observance of Independence Day, which is on Friday, July 3 this year. Thank you all for your understanding, cooperation, and support as we navigate uncertain times together.

When visiting a nature preserve, use good judgment and always err on the side of safety. If a parking lot is full, the preserve has reached capacity. Please leave and come back at another time. Many of our preserves are seeing increased visitation these days, so safety and respect for others is paramount.

Getting in touch

Our office is closed to visitors, and staff are working from home or in the field as safety permits. You can keep up with our work on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. We’d love to hear from you!
