Cookson Preserve

Sonja Cookson donated this preserve to be protected forever as a haven for wildlife. Sonja’s parents purchased the property in the early 1980’s, and planted a grove of black walnuts there. Sonja and her husband Larry also donated a conservation easement to Sycamore, which protects another 244 acres in Greene County.

Sycamore volunteers and contractor Habitat Solutions have planted over 4,000 trees to reforest several open field areas on the preserve. Contractor Eco Logic has assisted with invasive plant control to improve habitat for native plants and wildlife.
