Grandchildren’s Woods
Grandchildren’s Woods is part of Sycamore’s Beanblossom Creek Bicentennial Conservation Area, protecting floodplain forest along the creek. It has over a mile of frontage along Beanblossom Creek and contains a large drainage channel that remains wet through the year. A great blue heron rookery with about 30 nests is located along the creek.
The property includes a 7-acre farm field that Sycamore is going to reforest with bottomland trees. Sycamore will also remove invasive bushes in the forest understory, primarily Asian bush honeysuckle. Both projects are receiving funding from the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program.
